The MasterCard Foundation Scholars program’s vision is to educate and develop bright but economically marginalized young people in Africa and developing countries who have demonstrated a “give-back” ethos and will contribute to the continent’s transformation.

Within the next 8 to 10 years, the Scholarship Programme is expected to benefit 15,000 young people. The following US universities are collaborating with the MasterCard Foundation to provide scholarships to African and developing-country students. 2. Harambe Fletcher Scholarships for African Students:

The Harambe Fletcher Scholarships is a fully-funded scholarship program that provides young African leaders with the opportunity to acquire a Master’s degree in business or entrepreneurship in the United States.

The scholarship offers a tuition waiver and $20,000 per year for the duration of the program. Applicants must be students who are from Africa, have an outstanding academic record, and demonstrate financial need. 

The scholarship was created in memory of Harambe Fletcher, a young man from Zimbabwe who died in 2015 while attending Ohio State University. The scholarship assists talented African students in gaining the skills and knowledge they need to achieve success in their career goals. 

3. MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at Arizona State University (ASU)

In 2012, Arizona State University welcomed ten undergraduate students from seven African countries as the first class of MasterCard Foundation Scholars.

4. MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at Michigan State University (MSU)

The MasterCard Foundation has partnered with Michigan State University to provide full tuition scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students from Sub-Saharan Africa. The university will receive $45 million in funding from the foundation to support 185 scholars throughout the nine-year program, which includes 100 four-year undergraduates and 85 master’s degree students.

5. Microsoft Research Graduate Women’s Scholarship Program:

The Microsoft Research Graduate Women’s Scholarship Programme provides financial assistance to women who are currently pursuing a Ph.D. in computer science, engineering, or mathematics (STEM). Women who live in Canada or the United States are eligible for the scholarship.

The scholarship program provides $20,000 in aid to students annually. The scholarship is based on an excellent academic record and provides a partial tuition waiver for the chosen course of study at Microsoft.

6. The Foreign Fulbright Student Program – Government Scholarships in USA

7. MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at Stanford University

Over the next eight years, the MasterCard Foundation education initiative at Stanford University USA will provide comprehensive support to 20 talented but economically disadvantaged African students seeking scholarships in the United States. Each year, the Scholars Programme will support five (5) undergraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa.

8. New York University Wagner Scholarships: 

NYU Wagner provides a number of fully-funded scholarships to international students in order to help them financially during their studies. Because this scholarship is highly competitive, each applicant is chosen on merit. If you are an NYU employee or do not have a degree, you are ineligible to apply for this programme. 

The requirements for the NYU Wagner Scholarships are: 

-You must be a citizen or permanent resident of a country other than the United States.

-You must have a stellar academic record.

-You must plan to attend New York University.

-You must not have previously received financial aid from NYU.


9. The Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University:

The Nieman Fellowship is a prestigious award given each year by the Nieman Foundation to talented journalists. The fellowship covers full tuition as well as a monthly stipend for the duration of the two-year Programme. 

Graduate students who have completed their first two years of full-time postgraduate study at an accredited U.S. university are eligible.
